Frequently Asked Questions

Q. DO TATTOOS HURT?

A. Tattoos do hurt, but they are not intolerable. The tattoo pigment needs to get into the epidermal layer to be permanent. The easiest way to get it there is with a sharp, sterile object. Poking sharp objects into the epidermis does tend to cause a bit of discomfort, but the end result-a really well done tattoo-makes it all worthwhile.

Q. HOW MUCH DO TATTOOS COST?

A. The price of a tattoo varies with the size, detail and color. At Thinkin Ink Studios, there is a $40.00 minimum. The artists there can approximate the price of a tattoo with a description, and can work with any budget (within reason). The final cost of a tattoo will be decided before the tattoo process begins. A general rule of thumb for pricing a tattoo is: something about the size of your balled up fist is going to cost around $100.00. Hourly rate is $100.00/hour.

Q. DO YOU NEED AN APPOINTMENT?

A. It is a good idea to make an appointment to get a tattoo, but not necessary for piercing. Most of the artists at Thinkin Ink prefer to know what the customer is getting ahead of time (in case there are changes to be made to the pattern). If you are interested in an original design, be sure to talk to the artist at least a week ahead of your appointment.

Q. WHAT ABOUT THE AFTER-CARE OF A TATTOO?

A. Your tattoo artist will give you instructions for the care of your new tattoo, and will provide you with a set of written instructions as well. The main thing to remember is to keep your tattoo clean and out of the sun while it is healing. Be sure you understand all the instructions the artist gives you for caring for your new tattoo, and don't be afraid to ask questions if your are unclear on any of them.

Q. HOW LONG IS THE HEALING PROCESS?

A. Normally, a tattoo will take 7-10 days to heal, but there are people who heal as quickly as 3or 4 days, and some that take 3 weeks. It's a pretty individual experience. The healing process is not always a pretty one-the tattoo will go through a "flakey" period, and may even get scabs on it. Be sure to call and ask the artist if you have any fears or concerns, and they will update you on what is happening.

Q.WHERE CAN YOU FIND A TATTOO PATTERN?

A. The artists at Thinkin Ink can design a tattoo from anything: t-shirts, posters, cards, stamps, photographs, library books, underoos. . .anything! The artists are also available to design custom work from your ideas, and they welcome the customer to create their own designs.

Q. HOW CAN YOU BE SURE YOU ARE GETTING A TATTOO IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT AT THINKIN INK?

A. At Thinkin Ink, the procedures for sterilization go above and beyond what is required by the state tattoo regulations. The staff go out of their way to ensure your safety as well as their own. Every piece of equipment that touches a customer at Thinkin Ink is completely sterile before the procedure AND disposed of after the procedure.
